21st Century Preventive Care: Are you practicing in this century? - Dr. Pamela Maragliano Muniz
Speaker(s)

Dr. Pamela Maragliano Muniz
Dental hygienists have treated patients using traditional methods for decades and while this approach is sufficient to remove local deposits on teeth, it does not address biofilm. Oral biofilm has been implicated in numerous systemic conditions and dental professionals have a unique opportunity to remove biofilm effectively and efficiently. This promotes a positive impact on oral health and mitigates the oral contribution on the exacerbation of systemic health conditions. GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) has revolutionized preventive care. This webinar will describe GBT, implementation and the clinical and practice management outcomes of integrating this into clinical practice.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will be able to: 1. describe the concept of GBT.2. appreciate the benefits of implementing GBT into clinical practice.3. understand important strategies when implementing GBT.4. anticipate clinical benefits and patient perception of modifying the familiar dental hygiene appointment.
Speaker Biography
Dr. Maragliano-Muniz is a board-eligible prosthodontist and earned her certificate from the UCLA School of Dentistry after obtaining her D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is also a former dental hygienist: she earned her B.S.D.H. degree from Northeastern University and the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, A.A.S. in Dental Hygiene and A.S. degree in Math and Science from SUNY Orange.
Since being awarded the 2010 Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year by the American Dental Association, Dr. Maragliano-Muniz lectures nationally. She has recent publications that discuss Implementing CAMBRA in the private practice, explaining the role of caries risk factors to the disease process and the clinical effects of CAMBRA on root surfaces.
Dr. Maragliano-Muniz is a faculty member at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. She owns a private practice, Salem Dental Arts, located in downtown Salem, MA and is the Editorial Director for DentistryIQ.com’s online publication Pearls for Your Practice. Pearls is part of Pennwell’s Product Navigator Newsletter.
On a personal note, Dr. Maragliano-Muniz enjoys travel, outdoor activities and spending time with her family and pets, especially her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Senorita Diente.

Abacus Data Wave 5 April 2021
Declining Concern About the Pandemic - Intent to Visit the Dentist on the Rise – Perceived Risk of Transmission Continues to Drop
COVID-19 SURVEY RESULTS + TRACKING – APRIL 2021
CONDUCTED FOR CANADIAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION by ABACUS DATA
RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS FROM CANADA’S LEADING PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND MARKET RESEARCH EXPERTS
METHODOLOGY
The survey was conducted with 4,000 Canadians from April 9 to 14, 2021 and April 16 to 23, 2021. A random sample of panelists were invited to complete the survey from a set of partner panels based on the Lucid exchange platform. These partners are typically double opt-in survey panels, blended to manage out potential skews in the data from a single source.
The margin of error for a comparable probability-based random sample of the same size is +/- 1.52%, 19 times out of 20.
The data were weighted according to census data to ensure that the sample matched Canada’s population according to age, gender, educational attainment, and region. Totals may not add up to 100 due to rounding.

Generations of Zirconia…What Every Clinician Needs To Know From Material Selection to Clinical Application - Taiseer Sulaiman
Speaker(s)

Taiseer Sulaiman-DDS,PhD
NOT ALL ZIRCONIAS ARE THE SAME!! There have been numerous generations of monolithic zirconia since its introduction as a full contour indirect restorative material in 2010. Manufacturers and researchers hope to develop a zirconia material that combines strength and translucency. This presentation will provide an in-depth overview of the various zirconia generations and what a clinician should know about the mechanical and optical properties of each generation to aid in the selection process when prescribing zirconia restorations. The most recent monolithic zirconia cementing protocols will also be discussed. Finally, what clinical-based evidence on monolithic zirconia restorations has recently been reported in the literature, and can an alternative laboratory survey method provide useful information on zirconia's current clinical status?
Objectives:
1- Attendees will be able to classify the various types of zirconia materials that are currently available based on their Yttria concentration.
2- Recognize the mechanical (including wear characteristics) and optical properties of each zirconia type, as well as their impact on clinical considerations.
3- Attendees will learn how to effectively cement zirconia restorations and learn about recent clinical outcomes.
